Stunt doubles are extremely hard working, with them pulling off often-dangerous or outrageous feats, instead of the famous celebs. They don't even get recognition or praise for their hard work most of the time. You'd think that would put most people off from wanting to go into this line of business, but evidently, some stunt doubles end up befriending their acting partner after working together. These photos, showcasing stunt doubles alongside their celeb counterparts showcase just how much movies lie to us on screen - but also give us a unique glimpse into what it takes to create a movie, from behind the scenes.
Emilia Clarke's Double for Game of Thrones Is a Model Herself
Emilia Clarke's body double, Rosie Mac has taken over the part of Mother of Dragons, Daenerys Targaryen during the shooting of the 5th season of the HBO masterpiece, Game of Thrones. Mac is in fact a model and an actress herself.
Mac shared on her Instagram page photos from the set of the series during the filming of the fifth season, in which she is seen dressed in Daenerys' clothes. She apparently was chosen as Clarke's body double thanks to the amazing resemblance the two share. The production liked her on set so much that she even got her own minor role afterward. Score!
Brett Gelman Gave a Lot of Love for His Double on Instagram
Brett Gelman is most well known for his role on Netflix's Stranger Things, in which he plays Murray Bauman, the Russian-speaking conspiracy theorist. Gelman's character started off as a side character but was promoted to a full-on cast member during the 4th season of the series, meaning he had a lot more action scenes to partake in.
Obviously, Gelman had his own stunt double for these cool scenes - and he even took to Instagram to celebrate his double publicly. On June 9, 2022, Gelman posted to his Instagram account a "Big shoutout" to his stunt double, Ryan Green, accompanied by a photo of the two side by side from the set.
Ryan Gosling's Double Looks Just as Flashy on the Set of Barbie
Ryan Gosling is more than just eye candy. The talented actor played in many successful movies, like La La Land and the recent The Gray Man, with the latest requiring quite a bit of stunt work. The entire movie was riddled with action sequences from start to finish, and the stunt team had their work cut out for them.
Gosling's most recent project, however, is playing Ken in the upcoming Barbie film. Recent behind-the-scenes photos showed both star actors, Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie rolling about on their roller skates, alongside their stunt doubles. We're not sure yet what the doubles were needed for in the scene, but we're all going to find out once the movie hits the cinema.
Chris Hemsworth's Double Could Easily Replace Him as Thor
Chris Hemsworth is a name any Marvel fan would recognize - the actor has been portraying the god-turned-superhero Thor, who was also part of the Avengers group. With the most recent movie under the Thor series released earlier in 2022, it seems like Thor fans are going to keep seeing his character appearing in future Marvel films in different cameos.
Thor obviously involves a lot of dangerous stunts, that Hemsworth can't risk his wellbeing doing - so like many other actors, he too has a stunt double. Bobby Holland Hanton has been Hemsworth's double for over 10 years, working closely with him on many of Marvel's movies. It's no surprise, then, that the two are pretty well acquainted with each other.
Uma Thurman's Stunt Double Had Her Hands Full with Tarantino's Action Scenes
Uma Thurman's character in Tarantino's Kill Bill is the definition of action. Tarantino's love for blood-spilling scenes and Japanese samurai films are smeared all over this movie, so obviously, there are also a lot of special stunts being pulled left and right to make up all this high-paced action.
Thurman did quite a few of the stunts herself during this film, and it almost cost her everything: a violent crash scene left her terribly hurt. But even so, Thurman did have a stunt double for some of the more complicated stunts: Zoë Bell, a well-known stuntwoman who also worked on Xena: Warrior Princess, and another Tarantino film, Death Proof.
The Rock's Stuntman Is Actually Related to Him
The Rock is, like his name, built like an actual rock. but even he can't pull off some of the more risky stunts in his action movies, so he has a regularly employed stuntman who works closely with him - Tanoai Reed.
The two look so similar it's quite eerie - especially considering that it's not often you see someone with a body shaped like the Rock. Well, the two are actually related by blood - the only ones on our list. Reed is The Rock's cousin, which explains how the two are so visually similar. You know what they say about blood being thicker than water and all that.
Zoe Saldaña's Doubles for Guardians of the Galaxy Used Masks to Cover for Her
Marvel hit the jackpot with its releases of movies in recent years - their superhero comic-book movies have all done great at the box office. The 2014 Guardians of the Galaxy movie made over $700 million. The movie stars Chris Pratt as the infamous Star-Lord, alongside a ragtag group of alien vigilantes.
Zoe Saldaña, who plays the green-skinned alien Gamora has multiple action scenes in the movie - so it's not surprising to learn that she had more than just one stunt double. In the photo, we can see the actress and her doubles playing around with a prostatic mask, made after her own likeness. Kinda creepy, to be honest.
Tom Hardy and His Stunt Double Are Very Close Friends
Tom Hardy is on the list of celebs who are good friends with their stunt doubles. Hardy's double, Jacob Tomuri, is used to switching places with the actor in movies, as the two filmed multiple times together over the years, from Venom to Legend. The two often share on their social media about the time they spend together even when off the set.
On a recent Instagram post, Tomuri shared a photo from the set of Venom, with the caption "We are Eddie," referring to the fact that both men are "playing" the character in the movie - Hardy might be the face, but Tomuri is the body that gets punched around. We love to see this lovely friendship.
Keanu Reeves's Stunt Double Became Fast Friends with the Actor
Keanu Reeves is one of the most well-liked men on the internet - with multiple fans adoring him and his modest demeanor. He's also an exceptional actor, mostly taking roles in action-packed films, like John Wick and The Matrix. It's totally normal for him to have stunt doubles for some of the trickier shots.
Reportedly, the actor is quite close to his body doubles, often having lunch with them while on set and being an overall nice guy around them. We're not surprised to hear that, considering the reputation he got for being a big ol' lovely person.

Kimmy Schmidt is a cult survivor, who decides to take back control of her life and go out into the modern world. The story follows her as she learns to adjust to modern-day New York, alongside her roommate, a wannabe Broadway actor.
Even though the series itself is comedic in nature, stunt doubles were still needed during filming, and star Ellie Kemper had more than just one. Pictured with two of her stunt doubles, it's easy to see how they could take. her place during shoots without being too noticeably different. That's the power of cinematic editing for you.
Gaten Matarazzo's Scenes in Stranger Things Had to Have a Double
Gaten Matarazzo is extremely famous thanks to his role on Netflix's Stranger Things, in which he plays the lovable character of Dustin. Matarazzo quickly became a fan favorite thanks to his portrayal of Dustin, who is faced quite often with life-threatening dangers.
It's good then, that the kid actor had his own stunt double for some of the more dangerous and risky stunts that were required for the show. His stunt double, Chris Schmidt Jr., went uncredited but took over some scenes for Matarazzo in at least 3 episodes of the show.
Bruce Willis' Stunt Man Has Been on the Job for Over 15 Years
Bruce Willis is probably most well known for his outlandish action movies, always packed with spectacular car chases and fighting scenes. He also has his very own stunt double, who fills in for him during these dangerous scenes - Stuart F. Wilson, who has been working as Willis' stunt double for over 17 years.
Being so close to the famed actor over the years, Wilson even came forward to talk about the recent diagnosis of aphasia Willis was given. The stunt performer confessed that it was hard to tell something was off with the actor at first, but as time went on during filming, it was obvious something was off about Willis.
Natasha Lyonne's Stunt Doubles Had Their Work Cut Out for Them
There's something special about a group of redheads that just makes us stop and stare in awe. This picture, for example, with Natasha Lyonne and her stunt doubles from the set of Russian Doll. Even though most of the cinematic deaths of Lyonne's character happen off-screen, a bunch of them were filmed.
Most of these death scenes were done by Becca G.T., one of Lyonne's body doubles, who had to go through scenes involving falling from high places, drowning, and even car crashes. That's a real high-risk lifestyle, there's no denying that. At least it seems like they had a fun time during filming if judging by the photo alone.
Brie Larson Acknowledged Her Two Stunt Doubles During Her Award Speech
Brie Larson's entrance into the Marvel cinematic universe as the all-powerful Captain Marvel had her training for months to get in shape for the role. Larson has claimed many times that she did all of her own stunts in the action-packed film, and yet there have been some scenes that proved the actress's ability.
Larson had at least two stuntwomen on set to take over for her when the stunts proved just too difficult or would have put the actress in danger. Joanna Bennett and Renae Moneymaker were the ones who took over the part of Captain Marvel's dangerous feats and even got recognition from the actress during her MTV Movie & Awards speech in 2019.
Robert Pattinson Had a Stuntman Do the Vampire Attack Scenes in Twilight
Robert Pattinson was a real teen heartthrob during the renaissance of vampires in the early 2010s. It felt like all teens were obsessed with the Twilight books and movies - and with the brooding vampire, Edward Cullen, which was portrayed by Pattinson in the movies.
You either loved the series or totally hated it, but the irrefutable fact is that Twilight had a real vampiric influence over the media for a few years. The movies also included some action scenes that required the use of both special effects and stunt doubles for the main actors, so obviously, Pattinson also had his own stunt double to take over the more risky vampire moves for him.
Johnny Depp's Stuntman for Pirates of the Caribbean Looks Just Like the Star
Johnny Depp plays the notorious pirate, Jack Sparrow, in the Pirates of the Caribbean movie series. The pirate usually is up to some unruly shenanigans that almost always end up in total disaster. Sword fights, falling off of ships, and swinging off of ropes are all things Sparrow is seen to be doing during his screen time - so of course, Depp had a stunt double to replace him in doing so.
It's honestly amazing how similar the two are, with the make-up and costume. We can't even begin to imagine what's it like to have not one, but at least two Jack Sparrows around at all times. One is rowdy enough as is.
Mads Mikkelsen Had a Stuntman in a Beer Commercial
Not only movies require the use of stunt doubles. Any type of media that uses special effects or dangerous feats would benefit from not risking their celebs. So when Carlsberg - yes, the beer company - hired Mads Mikkelsen for a commercial, they also got him a stunt double to take over the more risky parts.
The commercial sees Mikkelsen riding his bike across town, going into bushes and on top of dining tables, into bedrooms, and even changing wardrobes during. Obviously, some of these are pretty risky tricks that Mikkelsen would be better off not doing himself, hence the use of the stunt double.
Emma Watson Became Good Friends with Her Harry Potter Double
Emma Watson made her debut at a very young age, thanks to her role as Hermione in the Harry Potter film series. The movies were all the rage at the time, with Harry Potter being at the peak of its popularity in the early 2000s.
While the first movies were mostly timid in nature, as the characters grew older, it seemed like they got into bigger trouble - which resulted in flashier action scenes for the movies. Obviously, the production couldn't risk any of their child stars, so stunt doubles were used in their stead. Watson had several doubles over the years and became friendly with most of them according to reports.
Javier Bardem's Double Could Have Fooled Even His Own Mother
Lyle Lyle Crocodile is a fantasy-filled movie, based on a children's fairy tale book, unfolding the tales of a singing crocodile and his human friend in New York. The movie is slated for an October 2022 release, which makes it an unreleased film at the time of writing this list - but we do have some behind-the-scenes photos.
Like this photo of actor Javier Bardem and his stunt double for the movie. Bardem is playing Hector P. Valenti in the upcoming film, a colorful character to say the least. We're not sure why the stunt double was needed yet, but we're sure to find out once the movie is released.
Chris Evans's Stunt Double Is a Real-Life Captain America
No one can deny the amazing success levels of the Marvel Cinematic Universe - the comic-book-based movies and TV shows have changed the way action movies are being viewed forever. And with that, Chris Evans' work as Captain America made him bigger than life, and one of Hollywood's hottest actors.
Captain America, of course, is a super-human, ultra-strong superhero, which means he fights a lot of bad guys on screen, adorned by explosions on all sides. Good thing Evans' stunt double, Sam Hargrave, is also an actor himself. Hargrave has been Evans' double for most Marvel films.
Will Smith's Repeated Appearances in Action Films Give His Stuntman a Lot of Work
Will Smith is yet another actor who is well known for his multiple action-filled movies, which also means he has a whole lot of stuntmen to take the dangerous scenes for him. His usual stuntman, Brandon McClary, has worked as Smith's double in more than just one movie.
McClary took many action scenes for Will Smith in his career, being his double in movies like Hancock, Bad Boys, and even Man in Black. It's easy to see why the two work so well together - they could pass as brothers if we didn't know any better.
Julianne Moore's Stunt Double Could Easily Pass as Her Twin
The Woman in the Window, the 2021 thriller film, starring Julianne Moore includes some hair-raising murder scenes that are a real bloody mess, perfect for lovers of the genre. The horror-filled scenes, however, require some difficult stunts that could risk the health of the leading actors in the movie.
Obviously, whenever a gritty scene like those is required for a movie, a stunt double is called to fill in the shoes of the actors. This photo of Moore and her stunt double shows that sometimes the doubles are a perfect match for their actor partner, as the two look almost identical.
Millie Bobby Brown's Double for Eleven Loved Filming for the Show
Millie Bobby Brown took the world by storm for her portrayal of the psychic-powered teenage girl, Eleven, in the Netflix show Stranger Things. Eleven is involved in many blood-pumping scenes, being the main powerhouse of the show against the Upside Down monstrosities coming to haunt the peaceful town of Hawkins.
It's only natural that the show would employ somebody double for the star, just to keep her on the safe side of things. Brown's double for the show is Kamryn Pooladsanj, who shared this cute picture of the two together on her Instagram, with a caption reading "Can’t wait for my next adventure in Hawkins, Indiana!"
Playing 007 Required Daniel Craig to Have a Stunt Double
There's no character more known for their on-screen explosive action than the special agent 007 - James Bond. In every Bond movie, you can find high-speed car chases, gun fights, exploding buildings and vehicles, and many more dangerous feats that would risk the health of any Hollywood star.
Daniel Craig being the latest actor to portray the special agent obviously had a really good stunt double on set. Paul Edmondson was Craig's stuntman for the latest Bond film, No Time To Die, which was released in 2021. One of the amazing stunts Edmondson pulled during the film included riding a motorbike over a cliff, and landing straight into a marketplace.
Penn Badgley Had a Double Do the Dangerous Bike Chase Scenes
Penn Badgley is well known for his role as the creepy stalker Joe Goldberg in YOU, but before that, Badgley took part in a movie called Cymbeline, back in 2014. the gritty movie follows a raging war between corrupted cops and a biker gang. Even though the movie scored pretty low with critics and viewers alike, its production still involved some high-speed car chases that required stunt doubles.
Penn Badgley and Dakota Jones were needed for a bike chase scene, in which stunt doubles took their place. We especially like the makeshift wigs the doubles were given to make them appear more like the star actors. Do you think they did a good job looking like their celeb counterparts?
Scarlett Johansson's Stuntwoman Has Worked with Her Since Iron Man 2
Scarlett Johansson's Marvel cinematic universe debut as Black Widow in 2010's Iron Man 2 promised her a long run as the character on screen. But portraying a supremely talented special agent and assassin proved to be quite the dangerous job, and required a lot of special tricks and stunts from the character.
Thankfully, Johansson's stunt double, Heidi Moneymaker has been by her side ever since the first shooting of Iron Man 2. She took over many of the amazingly difficult choreographed sequences that the movies required from the character.
Penélope Cruze and Her Surprisingly Manly Double
Penélope Cruz had more than just one stunt double while filming for Zoolander 2, back in 2016. The famed actress needed multiple doubles for the action-packed movie. One of her stunt doubles, however, is not really one fit to be considered a look-alike.
The man in the picture was used as the stunt performer for Cruz's bike scene, in which she dons a red leather jumpsuit and matching high heels. While the stunt performer is dressed similarly, it would be hard to confuse the two, considering he's a bearded man. We find this interesting to see a man doubling for a female actress, even though he was probably only used for the driving scenes.
Ryan Reynolds and His Stuntman Worked in Many Films Together
Ryan Reynolds is another actor who has a long working relationship with his stunt double. Reynolds has been working with the stunt person Adam Bradshaw in many movies, from The Avengers to Assassin's Creed, and The Hitman's Bodyguard.
Brandon took over for Reynolds in many car chases, fight scenes, and even a high-speed motorbike chase in the canals of Amsterdam. Reynolds himself obviously couldn't have done all of these dangerous stunts on his own, so it's a good thing he had his trustworthy double, Brandon, to cover for him during these adrenaline-packed scenes.
Jason Momoa's Double Looks So Much Like Him They Could Pass as Siblings
Jason Momoa is very memorable from both his time on Game of Thrones and from the Aquaman movies, in which he plays the titular character. The Hawaiian actor is definitely built like a real superhero, but that doesn't mean he can pull off all of the risky stunts his characters are required to do.
Momoa's stuntman, Kim Fardy, has been the actor's double in multiple movies, from Aquaman to Sweet Girl, Dune, and See - and it's easy to see why he kept his place as Momoa's double for so long. The two look almost like twins, which is pretty impressive considering you don't see many people built like that around every day.
It Was Hard Finding a Good Double for Margot Robbie
Margot Robbie's career has been on the raise ever since her debut film, About Time, was released in 2013. The actress got to play many unique characters, like the alluring villainess Harley Quinn in DC Comics Suicide Squad. Quinn's antics often proved dangerous and too risky for the actress, creating the need for a stuntwoman to take her place.
It seems that finding a stunt person who had similar features to the actress proved quite difficult, and yet the stunt manager for Suicide Squad managed to find someone with a great likeness to Robbie. Unfortunately, the stuntwoman went uncredited, but we'd like to think that she's the same one who doubles for the actress in the upcoming Barbie film as well.
Reese Witherspoon Considers Her Stunt Double Her Close Friend
Reese Witherspoon's connection with her long-time stunt double wasn't a secret to anyone. In 2018 Witherspoon shared on her Instagram account a video of her and her double, Marilee Lessley. The video showed both women standing side by side, dressed in similar blue shirts.
The stunt double is more than just a work partner for Witherspoon, as the two are actually pretty close friends even outside of work. Witherspoon shared in the video that Lessley has been her double for over a decade, and gushed about the amazing likeness between the two. "Don't we look alike?" She asked her followers. Yeah, They really do - it's almost uncanny.
Elizabeth Bankse Had a Rare Chance to Work with a Stunt Double
Elizabeth Banks doesn't usually need to have a stunt double to take over scenes for her, as most of her movie roles aren't necessarily considered action-packed. Her role in the Scrubs TV series, in which she plays Dr. Kim Briggs, is more comedy-oriented. Her role in the Pitch Perfect movie series was very much the same as well.
However, some of her roles did require some difficult choreography and called for the use of a stunt double, like her role in the 2017 Power Rangers film. Banks played the villainous Rita Repulsa and had a stunt double take over some of the more risky stunts for her.
Hugh Jackman's Stunt Double Got a Heartwarming Thank You from the Actor
Hugh Jackman's stunt double for the Wolverine movie series was Daniel Stevens, who worked with the actor in four of the movies, including the 2017 Logan. He even got a signed thank you photograph from Jackman after the filming was over, in which the actor wrote "Literally could not have done it without you."
The sweet gesture was definitely nice, but in an interview, the stuntman gave in 2022, he claimed that he never actually got to work with Jackman during the filming of Logan. "He did a take, and I did a take. But we never worked together." Stevens worked on other notable movies, like Marvel's Endgame and even as Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars.
She's Big, She's Green, She's an Actual Human Being
What's better than the Avengers' Hulk? Well, She-Hulk. Because everything's better when a woman does it. She-Hulk is a unique twist on the classic Marvel formula, showcasing the titular superhero trying to keep her every day, human-form life going while also learning to balance her superhero duties.
We're always up for a saucy courtroom drama, and when She-Hulk added the superhero ingredient it was a recipe for success - especially with the She-Hulk model looking amazing. While most fans seem to think that the green giant is made of CG, like her male cousin and Avenger - but she is actually modeled after a real stunt double. Those are some really big shoes to fill - literally, because on-set reference
Malia Arrayah Nahinu is six-foot-five! That's a pretty big difference, compared to Tatiana Maslany's five-foot-four frame.
Malia Arrayah Nahinu is six-foot-five! That's a pretty big difference, compared to Tatiana Maslany's five-foot-four frame.
Krysten Ritter's Double for Jessica Jones Is a Perfect Match
Kristen Ritter's role in the Netflix adaptation of the Marvel Comics Jessica Jones involved a lot of fast-paced action scenes. Jessica Jones' super-powered rampages through Hell's Kitchen involved a lot of fighting scenes, which required a stuntwoman to cover the difficult choreography for Ritter.
Dejay Roestenberg was the double used for Ritter in the filming for the series, and the choice was probably very easy to make - the two look so similar it's almost hard to tell them apart. Roestenberg talked about her friendly interactions with Ritter on set, as well with co-star David Tennent, calling her time on the set of the show "priceless."
Jennifer Lopez Stunt Double Had to Work Hard to Look Like the Singer
Jennifer Lopez's stunt double had to go the extra mile to take over scenes from the star actress. Vanessa Vander Pluym, who got the part of playing Lopez's double had to adopt a very strict diet and workout routine to keep her body in a shape similar to that of the actress, so the two would keep a certain level of likeness.
Pluym also worked with Lopez before, during the shooting of The Boy Next Door, back in 2015. It was her excellent job during the filming back then that kept her on Lopez's mind, resulting in the singer calling Pluym to assist her during the filming of the Shades of Blue TV show.
